In my first piece for the English-language Lisbon-based site, PortuGOAL.net, I have given an overview on Boavista’s first season back in the top-flight Liga NOS.
Boavista are a club dripping with history. Based in Portugal’s second largest city, Oporto, the club was forcibly relegated to the Portuguese second tier at the end of the 2007-08 campaign for financial irregularities. The side lasted only one season the said division before being relegated to the semi-professional regional third tier.
January 2013 finally saw some good news for the club which was promoted directly back to the extended Liga NOS for this campaign (2014-15). Debts were halved and the club has had to build an almost entirely new squad from scratch. This is their story of the first season back in the big-time…
